The Purpose framework

Pause · Understand · Reconnect · Purpose · Orient · Strength · Enjoy

Purpose is not something you find once. It's an identity you consciously choose and repeatedly live. These are the seven stages you move through each morning — then again tomorrow.

  1. P

    Pause

    5 or 15 min

    Step out of automatic mode.

Before the day starts using you, stop for a moment. Put the phone and the noise aside and make a small space between you and your automatic reactions.

    Practise Pause
  2. U

    Understand

    5 min

Look back at yesterday before planning today.

What did you actually do? What gave you energy, what drained you, what did you avoid, and which moment felt most like you? The aim is awareness, not judgement.

    Practise Understand
  3. R

    Reconnect

    5 min

Notice what is already supporting you.

People, relationships, opportunities, nature, ordinary comforts — and sometimes the difficult experiences that taught you something.

    Practise Reconnect
  4. P

    Purpose

    5 min

Not only what you want to achieve.

Choose an identity in your own words: I am a writer, a learner, a caring partner, a calm person. Then say why it matters, and what that version of you would do today.

    Practise Purpose
  5. O

    Orient

    5 min

    Vision plus obstacle plus plan.

See yourself living this identity and feel what that is like. Then name the obstacle most likely to stop you today, and decide your response in advance: if this happens, then I will do that.

    Practise Orient
  6. S

    Strength

    5 + 25 min

Don't just say “I am.” Do something that proves “I am.”

Move your body in any way you like, then spend twenty-five focused minutes on one thing that expresses the identity you chose. That session is the evidence.

    Practise Strength
  7. E

    Enjoy

    15 min

You don't have to earn the right to enjoy life.

Music, coffee, reading, a walk, a conversation, a game, or doing nothing at all. Enjoyment after intentional action creates a rhythm you can keep.

    Practise Enjoy

What a morning looks like

Roughly ten to twenty minutes, then one focused session

  1. 01

    Pause

A breath before the day begins.

  2. 02

    Understand

    Read yesterday honestly.

  3. 03

    Reconnect

    Notice what is already here.

  4. 04

    Purpose

Choose who you want to be.

  5. 05

    Orient

Picture it, plan for the obstacle.

  6. 06

    Move

    Get the body involved.

  7. 07

    25 minutes

    One identity-consistent action.

  8. 08

    Enjoy

    Go live your day.

Then you get to choose again.

  1. Choose
  2. Live
  3. Reflect
  4. Evolve
  5. Choose again

Your purpose can evolve. Your priorities can change. The person you want to become can change. The practice is the part that stays.

This is the Purpose Club framework: our own practical approach, informed by ideas we name and label honestly. It is not a validated psychological instrument, and it is not a substitute for professional mental health care.
